the multiple mini interview (mmi)
"MULTI-MINI INTERVIEWS FOR DUMMIES:APOLOGIES FOR BEING BUSY AS FUCK. APPLYING TO RESIDENCY IS A BITCH. I ALSO TALK LOUD IN REAL LIFE.
I know that some folks have started getting interviews from schools and that's great! The fashionable thing now is for schools to do what are called multiple-mini interviews. Basically instead of the traditional two people kicking your fat ass for 2-3 hours, you now have say, a dozen people beating your ass for 10 minutes each or something.
IT IS SOMEWHAT INTERESTING THAT A LOT OF SCHOOLS DON'T TELL YOU A LOT ABOUT THE MMI TYPE INTERVIEWS. BASICALLY THEY THINK THEY WILL GET TO FUCK YOU UP ON INTERVIEW DAY. BUT ALAS, ANDY HAS PREPARED YOU FOR THE MMI SO THE JOKES ON THEM. EXCEPT CANADIAN PROGRAMS. BECAUSE CANADIANS ARE NICE PEOPLE. AMERICANS TEND TO BE DICKFACES.
Okay so you're all like really what does it mean. From wiki:
"The multiple mini interview (MMI)[1] is an interview format that uses many short independent assessments, typically in a timed circuit, to obtain an aggregate score of each candidate’s soft skills. In 2001, the Michael DeGroote School of Medicine at McMaster University began developing the MMI system, to address two widely recognized problems. First, it has been shown that traditional interview formats or simulations of educational situations do not accurately predict performance in medical school. Secondly, when a licensing or regulatory body reviews the performance of a physician subsequent to patient complaints, the most frequent issues of concern are those of the non-cognitive skills, such as interpersonal skills, professionalism and ethical/moral judgment."

Basically it's pretty fucking hard to prepare for MMI because the whole idea is for you to think on your feet. As if I could effectively teach you how to think on your feet over the internet in one fucking post. Unsurprisingly, the process favors extroverts, so if you are an introvert, figure out ways to psych yourself up for the interview.
I think the best way to prepare for it is being confident in yourself, and being comfortable, and just making the best use of that whatever minute interview to really show off your your awesomeness. Try to make those minutes a conversation and not an interrogation.
Some links below should be very helpful in getting a better idea of what is expected from the MMI format, it's hard for me to really encompass everything out there in terms of MMI.
