the cost of applying $$
Applying is expensive. You should budget something in the tens of thousands of dollars for airfare, lodging, pure application costs. Fortunately I was working so I had a war chest ready to go.
Debt's been a hot topic. Generally it'll be in the 160K to 300K depending on how aggressive you are. For the most part, it's pretty manageable. I've never heard anyone run into debt trouble and there's lots of interesting mechanisms for reducing or getting away with not paying the full burden.
Affording medical education. I'm a regular dude, with no family and so of course I got worried about costs like everyone else. Fin aid at medical schools is typically very very reasonable, I've never heard of anyone getting screwed by finaid unless they didn't plan out well. Your job as a premed is to get into medical school. Finaid will take care of itself.
