You will seem much less awkward when you start needing to fill it out after you graduate and starting it from scratch when you need it. Cultivate your connections just as you would a facebook profile.
Simple is fine, and you don't need to put a full on CV or anything like that on it.

Use this document as a rough guide as to "what your chances are". However, it can be anxiety-inducing; also, its not 100% accurate, nor does it do a good job of factoring things in like a postbacc, etc. In addition, I might add a 0.1 or something to your GPA for the purposes of calculation since you go to Cal. (Yes, it includes LizzieM scores, which are used roughly to "rank" applicants.)
